Optimizing your trip to Berlenga Island in 2026

Optimizing your trip to Berlenga Island in 2026

Booking your trip to the Berlengas begins in Peniche (or on our website), the primary departure point for the archipelago.
Your first priority is obtaining the Berlenga Pass. This mandatory permit is issued by the ICNF (Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests) to manage the visitor capacity of the Berlengas Nature Reserve. You cannot visit the island without paying this access fee.

Once you have your Berlenga Pass, you can book your crossing on our modern catamaran, equipped with state-of-the-art engines. Visit our website to view boat schedules, select your date, and begin your adventure.
There is also a seasonal ferry available, which offers a more leisurely crossing and typically operates from June to September. Given the high demand, booking your boat tickets online in advance is essential to ensure you are not left behind.
Ticket prices vary depending on the season.

Once on the island, the highlight of any visit is the iconic São João Baptista Fort, a historic military fortification that appears to rise directly from the ocean. Popular activities include snorkeling in the crystal-clear protected waters and boat tours of the caves, where you can explore unique rock formations like the "Furado Grande". For hikers, several trails lead to the Berlenga Lighthouse, offering spectacular panoramic views.
Accommodation on the island is very popular but limited. You can choose from a rustic stay at the Fort, a night at the local campsite (which requires advance booking through the Peniche City Council), or a room at the small Berlenga Bed & Breakfast.
While there is a restaurant and a snack bar on the island, many visitors prefer to bring their own supplies from Peniche. Before you depart, always check the sea conditions and boat schedules, as all trips are subject to the weather.
